Product Description The LE700 series again illustrates Sharp's LCD technology leadership while also demonstrating its LED engineering advantages. Sharp's UltraBrilliant LED system illuminates the TV to extremely high brightness and contrast levels and enables significant environmental benefits such as longer life expectancy, no heavy metals and lower power consumption. At the same time, the XGen LCD Panel utilizes an ingeniously devised pixel design that permits more light to pass through even while minimizing light leakage, with the result being the deepest black levels that AQUOS has ever achieved. Overall, the LE700 series shows that with Sharp, it's not just LED... it's AQUOS LED.

Great Value/Great Viewing Experience March 6, 2010 John G. Chase, Jr. (Crockett, TX United States) We moved from a 27" SDTV to this. What an amazing difference! When it first arrived, the Satellite TV folks had not yet hooked us up for HD, so we used it for a week as a big SD set. The picture quality was pretty good for broadcast, and was very good for standard DVD, but, without the HD input, it was just a big screen TV. When the Satellite folks finally showed up to install the HD, --- wow! What an amazing picture! The sound is pretty good as is, but it also offers the options of standard sound out, digital coax or digital optical. That was important to us, because the audio box we have has digital coax input, but no optical input. We do not have a home theater system, so we run the sound through our stereo for movies, but use the onboard speakers for normal viewing. Works well. I have one complaint, though. The picture is so good in HD, that we often find ourselves paging through the daily line-up and skipping right over the non-HD channels. Actually, the SD content is pretty good on this set; it is just that the HD is phenomenal. We've had the thing for a couple of months now, and we are very satisfied. Next purchase - a BlueRay player.
Great TV with one big flaw... February 23, 2010 D. Brovarnik 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Bought this TV as I really liked the picture quality compared to other sets.
I've owned Samsung LN-52B750 before and got rid of it due to poor viewing
angle, lots of motion artifacts, unacceptable lag for gaming and bad shadow details.
Saw this TV in a store and really liked it.
This TV has none of the shortcomings of the B750 - better viewing angles,
virtually no lag. Contrast is also very good without loss of the shadow details.
It would be definitely a keeper, BUT...
The first time I've turned it on it was extremely bright (thanks to the LED backlight).
So I've tried to adjust the backlight to set it to a lower level, but sliding the
backlight control had no affect. Swithing the OPC on did nothing either.
I was surprised, since I own another 5 year old Sharp that has the same UI control
and never had any issues with it.
After about 35-40 minutes I've noticed that the backlight level stated to dim
and got to the level that was set in the menu. After a couple of days of investigating
this I've concluded that the TV needs to "warm up" time in order to control the backlight
and the OPC to work. That just did not make sense. So I called Sharp and they set over a tech.
The tech guy came, saw the problem and replaced power supply board - it did not help.
Then he replaced the main board - the TV did not power up after that.
He came back next week with another main board - same story.
He put the original main board back and left. After that I've called Sharp and they offered
to replace the TV. A week later the new TV came with EXACTLY the same problem.
What I've noticed later is that the colder is surrounding room temperature the more time it takes
for the backlight to work properly. At about 65-66F it takes around 40 minutes.
At 69-70 it takes about 15 - 20 minutes. I thought I had just a bad set, but it looks like
there is an issue with this model line now.
Note: This TV is super bright at the max backlight level and it just hurts your eyes when
trying to watch it in the dim environment or at night (plus all the blacks become grey).
So I've called Sharp again and asked for the refund. They were ready to send me a third TV.
It is a pity, I really liked this set.
P.S. I've found several people on the AVS forum who had the same problem and returned the sets.
YOU Will be Happy! = - ) February 19, 2010 Lee (Kanagawa, Japan) You won't go wrong with it. Take away the ECO friendly settings; because, it will hamper your excellent bright vision view! I need lights on in the room just to look at the T.V. when I take away ECO mode.
Remember the days, sun beaming down on your T.V and you can't see A THING?
No worries with this T.V ... Take away the ECO setting during ULTRA sun light through the glass window and you will still see good picture.
I could see my reflection like a mirror before I turned the T.V on for the first time.
Worth every ONE HUNDRED and SEVENTY THOUSAND PENNNIES .
Saving money with the electricity bill. IT DOES NOT HEAT UP LIKE A TYPICALLY LCD HIGH DEFINITION TV ... which is bad, I have to use electricity for the heater in the living room just to stay warm.
Awesome TV for the price! February 14, 2010 Nics1204 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I highly recommend this TV! I could not be happier with it. Picture quality is great. Nice deep blacks, and images look very sharp and have "pop" to them. Setting it up was a breeze as well. As almost everyone else has mentioned, the TV's sound quality is pretty mediocre. Luckily I have it hooked up to a surround sound system so it is not an issue for me. Blu Rays,my HD-DVD's, and my Xbox360 and PS3 games all look jaw dropping awesome.
I use to have my 56 inch Samsung LED DLP 1080p TV hooked up in my media room but now I have my Aquos there and moved my Samsung downstairs into the family room. Even though they are both 1080p sets, there is a huge difference in picture quality between my Aquos and Samsung. The Aquos just blows it away. I'm sure alot of that has to do with the contrast ratio (Aquos has up to a 2,000,000:1 ratio as compared to 15,000:1 on my Samsung). Not to mention the 120hz also add to the picture quality.
Bottom line, this TV is worth every penny and I could not be happier with it. If picture quality is important to you, then you will not regret purchasing this TV. However, if you do not have a surround sound system and audio quality is important to you, be warned that you may be disappointed with the sound that comes out from this set but is not bad enough to deter you away from purchasing this TV.
Great Value February 14, 2010 Michael J. Farrington 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Overall, I am extremely impressed with the quality of the TV for the price. I read many reviews here on amazon as well as other sites and I have to say the "pros" and "cons" I kept reading about were pretty accurate. They are as follows:
Pros: Price, Brilliant color (as expected from LED), Plenty of inputs, Looks good from all angles
Cons: Blacks not as deep as other more expensive LED TVs, Does not pass through 5.1
I can expand on the first con I have listed here without getting too technical. Basically the backlighting engine is 'all or nothing'... meaning if there is anything bright in the screen, then the whole screen is well lit, even the parts that should be black. It's not a huge deal, still looks great... but just be aware that more expensive LED TVs are definitely better at displaying deep blacks at the same time they are displaying bright colors. This is really only evident in dark shows and movies... any outdoor scenes, sports events, etc look amazing.
The second con is not a problem for me because I send the 5.1 signals directly from my 'toys' to my surround receiver, i don't run them through my TV.
